So, this is probably not the summer to go to the beach on the Gulf of Mexico.  As I watch the video clips of the BP Oil Spill, I have to ask - did we not learn anything from the Exxon adventures in Alaska many years ago?  Is there not someone - way smarter than I am - who has a magic formula that can suck up all of that oil, save it, put it in tankards, and salvage our wildlife, habitats, and yes - our ability to sit on the beach and watch the waves crash on the shore?

I have some BP stock.  My dad was a geologist for Amoco/BP and retired after 35 years.  I grew up in this Oil and Gas business. However, I am sorely disappointed in the situation that is happening in the Gulf.  Do accidents happen?  Of course they do, but we should always be asking ourselves how will we become resilient when the "what ifs" happen.  Raise the bar of performance, BP.  Don't let this happen again.

Perhaps it's just a naive perception, but it seems that accidents happen more frequently when they are more "cost effective" than their repercussions. Texas City was just 5 years ago and apparently the lack of proper upkeep didn't really flag and major policy change. I agree, the bar needs to be raised.
