I am assuming scientists from around the world are looking for and finding the answers to those same questions, but from my perspective I can’t help but see this as another “wake up call” for us.  Not a scary – OMG the world is coming to an end – wake up call, but more of a “what do we need to understand and what do we need to do differently” so that if/when this happens again, we will have more answers to its cause.   Do we need to be more conscious of where we put nuclear power plants?  Do we need to appreciate that coastlines are potential volatile areas?  Do we need to remember that Mother Nature is no match for human kind?  I certainly do not have the answers to these questions, but I hope all of us at least start putting these questions in our realm of thinking.
